The Town of Hurley is on the road to becoming a NYS Climate Smart Community. After the Climate Smart Community (CSC) Task Force was formed, they applied for and received an initial Local Champions grant to start its work. The aim of the Local Champions program is to train municipal staff and volunteers to achieve Climate Smart Communities Bronze Certification.

The Town of Hurley Conservation Advisory Committee has been active for several decades and has worked to advise the town on environmental issues through studies and plans such as groundwater protection and open space plans. The Town Board adopted the Climate Smart Communities Pledge in 2018 and established the Hurley CSC Task Force in November 2020 through town resolutions.
